Test schedule:   Our core flights and field scouting center around five defined growing events/phases. See calendar for projected test times. We conduct multiple flights and process data for:

  • Late March/Early April — Pre-planting to measure soil condition, nitrogen, field moisture, organic matter.
  • Late April/Early May — Emergence and population counts
  • June — Scouting for nitrogen and other fertilizer deficiencies
  • July — Pre-maturity crop conditions, disease and pest issues.
  • August/September — Yield prediction and overall crop maturation status

Heartwood conducts weekly flights at the Experimental Farm from planting through harvest. We process the data gathered from those flights, and scout the farm based on that data. We design and conduct various experiments to continually test our ability to detect impacts of weather, nuisance wildlife, weed pressure, fertilizer losses, disease and insect pressure.

If you would like to visit the farm, suggest tests, or discuss services available this growing season, please visit The Experimental Farm page.
